Full of humor, tenderness and social criticism, the work ironically addresses the relationship between art, nature and progress, proposing a poetic and reflective look at modernity and its contradictions.

In this opera, the words of the playwright and National Prize winner Alejandro Sieveking are intertwined with the music in a dialogue that goes through both the dramaturgical structure and the musical composition, articulating a gesture of return, recycling and transformation. With music written for six instrumentalists and eight singers, the work proposes an agile, adaptable format with low environmental impact, which favors the circulation of the operatic genre in Chile.

A cow looking at the piano seeks to rethink the links between technology, materiality and art, proposing itself as the first sustainable opera. "(The work) arises as an interdisciplinary research project developed at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, which articulates the areas of music, engineering and construction. Its objective is to explore new models of sustainable artistic creation, integrating the principles of the circular economy in the processes of design, composition and scenic production," comments its director Miguel Farías.

In this way, the scenic elements are built from construction waste and the costumes are made with recycled materials, integrating the principles of sustainability at all levels. In collaboration with Rodrigo Cádiz, these same elements were transformed into electronic musical instruments using microphones and sensors, incorporating them in real time into the sound of the opera.

The staging and comprehensive design, carried out by Constanza Thümler and Ángelo Olivier, is deployed from an innovative production, integrating lighting art and work with new media to the staging.
