A giant sphere is installed in Plaza Oriente as part of the II Resonant Spaces Festival. Inside, immersive sound pieces are heard in multichannel audio. An experience to stop the noise of the city and focus on the details of the rhythms and bits, listening from different parts of the space.
How do we experience and understand sound in relation to architectural space? This reflection guides the creation of Sonómetro, a space specially designed and built by Espacios Resonantes to house a listening room in the heart of Santiago.
In a context where listening practices are being redefined by contemporary technologies and approaches, this project aims to challenge traditional forms of perception and creates a dialogue between architecture, sound and the public. In that sense, the invitation is to listen to sound pieces that immerse the viewer in an acoustic journey.
On the outside, the space appears as a spherical geometric figure 5 meters in diameter, suspended in the air. Inside, the listener is suspended in a net, lying down and surrounded by 15 speakers, which allow him or her to experience sound in motion, accompanied by dim lighting to focus perception on hearing, rather than sight.
This Sound Meter will host specialized sound works with immersive audio from the festival directors, Sofía Balbontín & Mathias Klenner, specially designed to highlight its acoustic characteristics, such as spherical space. Among them, a series of compositions created from an investigation into the aural architecture of the Lota coal ruins.
Finally, a series of works by national and international composers and artists will be presented, including Federico Schumacher, Manuel Berenguer, Alejandro Albornoz, among others.

To access the Sound Level Meter, you ascend through a staircase, entering through a triangular gate 1.40 meters high. Inside, the audience will live a group sound experience of approximately 40 minutes, lying or sitting on a suspended elastic mesh, with soft lighting and 16.1 surround sound. Experience not recommended for people with claustrophobia.
You cannot enter with shoes.
