Coyote Movement

An interdisciplinary production that uses performative languages ​​between immersive theater, physical theater, dance and perfo-conference, is what Elías Cohen brings, theater director and choreographer, who returns after six years to GAM after productions such as Oceánika and La Mundial. This time, the notion of movement and thinking about better futures will be key in the creation of the Coyote Movement.

On stage, five movement teachers will play at locating themselves in the year 5562 of the Andean calendar (2054 Gregorian). From a bunker in a South American capital, and in a party mood, this group of artist-academics seek to revive the "Coyote Movement" that 30 years ago broke the rules of thinking and doing. The new "coyotes" design and dream of new undisciplined and possible futures based on their emancipated mobilities at a critical and poetic level.

"The creation is motivated by a deep reflection on what the movement really is and how it can create better futures. By setting the narrative in the year 2054, the work acts as a catalyst to imagine and dream new possibilities for humanity, promoting a more inclusive, optimistic and embodied vision of the future and how the movement in its deep understanding is essential to achieve it," Cohen points out.

The name of the project refers to the coyote in its multiple associations: the mythical archetype, the canis latrans related to the wolf, and the human who crosses the border, such as the human coyotes who transport undocumented workers for profit. In this case, the “coyote academic-artists” carry transformations by transmitting new ways of thinking from an “undisciplined” perspective.

Other innovations occur in the stage space, which is designed to immerse the audience in an immersive experience at the beginning of the show and then intertwine various stage languages ​​that include physical theater, dance, perfo-conference and circus.

"In an increasingly globalized world, physical and symbolic borders continue to be a topic of great relevance. (This work) explores the notion of borders not only as geographical lines, but as social and personal constructions that limit and define our experiences. Reflecting on this content is essential to recover and value the physical and emotional experience in a digitalized world," concludes Cohen.
