A family show of magic and technology. The magician Juan Esteban Varela presents this premiere with a drone, a robot, playing cards and oranges.
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” The phrase of the writer Arthur C. Clarke, author of 2001: A Space Odyssey, beats in this magic show that uses current technology to astonish.
The play is directed by Miguel Bregante, from the La Mona Ilustre theater company, and stars the magician Juan Esteban Varela. After Magic Tiger, the illusionist returns to GAM using a drone and a robot, cell phones and social networks on stage.
All illusions are related, in one way or another, to technology. But that does not take away space from more traditional elements, such as the deck of cards, or from emblematic tricks, such as the one that gives the work its title. Because if The Orange Tree is called that it is in honor of an illusion by Robert Houdin, father of modern magic, which is presented here in an adapted version.
"Intentionally to break the coldness that sometimes goes hand in hand with technology, we have tried with Miguel to give a particularly light and friendly character to most of the magical effects. We understand magic as a dynamic and surprising game and we want our relationship with technology and humor to have that same seal," says the magician.
