The play, in a version of La Dramática Nacional and with dramaturgy by María Asunción Requena, narrates the life of the Chilotes of Curaco de Vélez in the 70s, who must migrate to Patagonia in search of work, moving away from their homes and families. The public will attend a multidisciplinary show that brings together the Chilote culture with its music, mythology, dances and landscapes. Directed and performed by Carolina Araya, Nelda Muray and Carolina Rebolledo.

When the tourists leave and the rain begins to get worse in Curaco de Vélez, the real Chiloé awakens. Chiloé, overcast skies is an invitation to immerse yourself in the Island of Quinchao through a monumental staging that mixes the crudest realism with the magic of myths.

The story presents us with a group of women who face the loneliness of an eternal winter, while their men leave for Patagonia in search of a livelihood that rarely makes them young. Among them stands out Rosario, a woman who defies her destiny by refusing to marry, trapped by the love of a ghost. In this corner of the world, the living, souls and mythological beings coexist and question, under a gray sky, what their true purpose in life is.

Brought to the stage by the prestigious La Dramática Nacional Company, this work is a large-format show that dazzles with its ambition and beauty. With 22 actors on stage, live music and traditional dances, the experience transcends conventional theater to become a true festival of cultural heritage.

"The idea is born from the continuity of a company project that revitalizes the classic and almost forgotten Chilean dramaturgy, which narrates the history of the people and their traditions. In this case the feminine pen of María Asunción Requena highlights the difficulties suffered by the most remote regions of Santiago, the complex life of the poor and the traditions of each place," comments the co-director, Nelda Muray.

Every detail has been carefully designed to transport the viewer directly to the archipelago: from a scenography that rescues the construction techniques of Chilote homes, to visuals recorded in Curaco de Vélez itself and a soundtrack that ranges from religious music to the most vibrant festive rhythms in the area.

Beyond its undeniable artistic richness, Chiloé, covered skies is a deeply current work that invites reflection. Through its characters, the piece brings to the table necessary debates about centralism, gender stereotypes and the historical precariousness of the working classes in the extremes of our country. "The work was written in the early seventies and reveals how the events, themes and difficulties remain the same, such as the construction of the Chacao bridge, the eternal promise for Chiloé," adds Muray.

A work that provides the opportunity to enjoy a first-class scenic display that celebrates national identity, while moving us with a story of love, resistance and mystery. A powerful montage that demonstrates that, under the island's overcast skies, the Chilote culture shines with unstoppable force.
