Six bodies, voices, testimonies and silences share a quadrilateral as a cube of refuge and victories. In this fighting ring, the performers get lost, search for each other and contain themselves by dancing. After ten years of research, the Danza Jam company brings the first Chilean dance work starring a cast only of trans and non-binary performing artists.

The struggle of the LGBTIQ community is revealed in Trans/fusion, a montage where six bodies manifest the persecution and discrimination that generates a continuous state of defense.

Based on testimonies from the performers themselves and others collected in previous research, the winning project of the 2021 Performing Arts Fund mixes biodrama, autofiction dramaturgy, contemporary dance and spectacle.

"This journey began ten years ago when I wanted to talk about trans issues. I was just setting up the company and the people who worked with me were cis bodies. We took the challenge with a lot of respect, with a lot of study and field work to be able to bring this play to the stage from a place of observation, care and visibility," says Jenniffer Alegría, director of the play.

Recognized as the “Best contemporary dance creation 2023” by the Art Critics Circle, the montage presents the intention of playing with reality and the utopia of a different, diverse and inclusive society, inviting the viewer to interpret, complete and discover the puzzle it suggests. For the first time in dance, the cast is made up only of trans and non-binary performing artists.

"We wanted to be consistent with the work and also with critical thinking regarding the society in which we live, having the possibility of opening spaces, getting to know new bodies and understanding that they have the same strength and possibilities on stage. That is why the decision to use trans artists is fundamental for the development and staging. Creating from their corporalities and testimonies is a work that honors the theme itself," says Jenniffer.

Critics described it as an honest and necessary work. "Choreographically or artistically, it is a refined, analytical and well-plated work, a mix of contemporary dance, spectacle and performance. On this stage you don't dance, you reveal your soul, your body, you bleed out in every second, as if it were the last opportunity to say, this is my message, this is me," wrote César Sepúlveda of the Art Critics Circle.
