Trance: body and ancestry

"The Haitian voodoo tradition seeks spiritual enlightenment, where through dance and movement it revalues ​​the sense of veneration of the forces of nature and freely reestablishes the connection with the culture of African origin. I am interested in making visible how these practices develop in a context of migration, where the environment and daily challenges are different," says Haitian choreographer and director Evens Clercema. 

Clercema presents at GAM Trance: body and ancestry, a work of contemporary Afro dance with elements of traditional Haitian dances and rhythms, jazz dance and contemporary dance. The work investigates the spiritual dimension of migration and is performed by eleven musicians and seven dancers from Haiti, Cuba and Chile.
