Trance: Body and ancestry

Migratory transit is not only geographical, social and emotional, but also spiritual. Trance is a contemporary Afro dance work that expresses the emotional and spiritual processes that migration brings with it, and how the process of “making home” begins in another territory with another culture.

The Haitian voodoo tradition is its central inspiration, with its cosmogony where nature, living beings, gods and ancestors are connected and the people who belong to it seek spiritual enlightenment in their lives.

The Trance choreographies were born from the reflections of the Haitian director Evens Clercema and some of the members of the company on their migratory process, and are divided into three movements, each created from traditional rhythms of Haitian culture: First Movement: Disorientation–interpellation; Second movement: Here I am; Third movement: Liberation.
