The World Cup

“Because things are the way they are, things will not stay the same.” The phrase is from Bertolt Brecht but it could be from many. The idea that the only constant is change is not new. In fact, it is at the basis of Taoist thought that, with its principle of eternal transformation, inspires La Mundial, a work of contemporary dance and physical theater directed by Elías Cohen (SimpleFicción). 

Taoism, globalization and humor inspire this premiere. The montage is located in a cosmopolitan and South American hair salon. There, four dancers play four stylists of diverse origins and hidden powers who move between traditional sounds from different places in the world.

"Our hair salon is a metaphor for permanent transformation. Transformation of the image, of the subject, of races, cultures, the fusion of music, all mixing in a creative soup that allows for a broad, intuitive and not so conceptual reading," says Cohen. And Vicuña adds: “Constant change dialogues with the eternal mobility of dance and the space where the work is developed, a space of transformation.”
