Masculinity, sexuality and violence. Seven men on stage recreating rituals and ce
remonies that mark the loss of innocence, the passage to adulthood. Sometimes they wear boxing gloves, sometimes they are naked. Blood falls, there is stimulation. Without scenery, in Rite of spring - Extended the protagonists are the bodies of the dancers of the Danish company Granhoj Dans and the music of Igor Stravinsky that sounds with his emblematic work: The Rite of Spring.
"The loss of innocence is illustrated through powerful, raw and brutal images, but with great sincerity and relaxing humor. Just on the edge, but clear, in the style of Granhoj Dans, a feat done in the spirit of the original work," Monna Dithmer wrote in the Danish newspaper Politiken.
Why made in the original spirit of the work? Because when Stravinsky premiered this composition in 1913 it was controversial, both because it transgressed the musical canons of that time and because of the subject it dealt with, a pagan ritual with sacrifice included.
In Rite of spring - Extended the Danish company transgresses the original development of the composition to create its irreverent and contemporary version. The work is the creation of Palle Granhoj in close collaboration with the members of the cast. The company is supported by the Danish Arts Council and Aarhus City Council.
