REVEAL

REVEL is a staging that creates a dance from the experience of observing the movements of sunlight in the southern hemisphere. The result is a subtle story of actions, textures and live music, which calls upon the public to share a collective contemplation, opening the way to the body as a threshold of revelations.

Both in its creation process and in the resulting piece, photography and dance have been linked, observing, recording, experimenting and creating bodily, choreographic and scenic operations, since the body, like photographic paper, is a material that, because it is sensitive to luminosity, is capable of creating images or rather, of revealing them.

"(This is) the third creation of Ensayos sobre la luz, after Aparer (2021) and DEVELAR (2023). If the latter was born from a curiosity about bodily photosensitivity and interiority, Revelar seeks to delve into the delusions that prolonged exposure to light triggers, sharing the subtle but hallucinatory optical experiences that investigating it brings," says the choreographer and creator, Daniella Santibáñez.

On stage, we will see how light materializes in clothing, space, movement, actions and sound, where a lighting architecture, a lighting operator with his table in view, a violist and composer of live electronic music, plus a performer dancing a collection of light-sensitive body practices coexist.

The public is integrated into the space of the work, "in an environment of trust, relaxed, located at floor level in a semicircular shape, where the performer promotes a close atmosphere, which calls for contemplation, to sensitize us with beauty, strangeness and subtlety," adds Santibáñez.

A fundamental part of the creative process was the creation of solarigraphs, a photographic technique to record the movement of sunlight over extended periods of time. This procedure detonated the bodily practices seen in the scene, giving rise to the appearance of solar creatures that remind us that we can transit to other worlds.

"We need practices that spiritually link us to life, something fundamental for survival in times of sociopolitical crisis. That is where the ability to delirium comes into play - an idea that I reaffirm based on conversations with Eleonora Fabiao - because it is an opportunity to open ourselves to other imaginaries that allow us to think about other possible worlds," concludes Daniella.
