Book presentation "Body and Visuality: Reflections on the Archive"

The book "Body and Visuality. Reflections on the archive" (Ed. Metales Pesados, 2019), edited by Jennifer McColl Crozier is composed of open reflections from  Carmen Beuchat Archive.

This series of documents expose gestures of insistence and resistance around traces and visual residues, opening relationships between images and the record of works that no longer exist, appealing to the ephemerality of performative time, to the intrinsic materiality of the performing arts: the body in movement.

Carmen Beuchat (1941)
Chilean artist and choreographer, she migrated to the United States towards the end of the sixties, where she actively participated in the New York scene of the seventies and eighties. Founding member of the Natural History of the American Dancers collective, Carmen Beuchat has developed a link between her visual and choreographic work with a strong emphasis on spatial composition, inserting mobile structures in her choreographies.
In Chile he is recognized as the first source of contact improvisation and composition techniques related to North American postmodern dance. He held workshops in the midst of the dictatorship, beginning a process of great transformation, not only in formal terms, but also based on a philosophy around the body in movement.
