PopSong

The automobile has been moving around this planet since before a woman could study at a university in Santiago. Even Nicanor Parra is older than the right to vote for women in Chile. If you find it scandalous how long it took society to grant these rights, it is because you have a position on the issue. That is what motivated the work PopSong, not the story itself, but the positions taken on gender roles and the dynamics that these positions generate.

"These topics cause a lot of passion, they move a lot of energy in our lives and in society, they can generate changes, they can restructure everything from how we dress or how we behave in the street in relation to others. That energy interests me a lot, the passion and dynamics between genders cause me interest," says Danish choreographer, dancer and actor Thomas Bentin, explaining the origin of the work that he created, directs and dances together with Betania González and Natalia Bakulic.

Bentin's creation moves through the female universe, genders, their identities, relationships and possibilities. The work does not intend to raise criticism or conclusions on the subject, but rather to open it through dance and the emotion that motivates and transmits movement. For example, playing with female stereotypes, such as the nurse and the secretary, the angel and the witch, Joan of Arc and Marilyn Monroe. With a minimalist and abstract approach, PopSong moves from moments of great dynamism to others of calm, in a contrast of energies that the Danish choreographer also sought in the cast.

"The conflict that exists in the work is the same that I feel in reality, that it is so difficult to understand each other. If one wants to change their way of acting as a gender, that immediately generates a problem for the other, because one has to redefine oneself and perhaps it can create insecurity," explains Bentin.

And why PopSong? According to the choreographer, because many pop songs talk about these topics and because for him dance is something very musical.
