Do not cover

This is not a conventional dance work. It is a creation that resembles a choreographic installation, exposes its process and is linked to science. Created by Sergio Valenzuela, the work covers and reveals the bodies of the dancers through geometric costumes. The way the dancers move with them does not follow a rigid pattern and changes from role to role. And spectators can photograph and record what happens.

Do not cover debuted in Vienna and now arrives in Santiago in a new version. “Do not cover - Santiago, was born from an investigation into how a spectator or audience can perceive an action of art or performance, and at what moment their consciousness and/or attention is lost,” explains Valenzuela.

To create the work, Valenzuela used a NASA study on astronauts' concentration when performing different tasks. He also worked with Elizabeth Zimmerman in the study of cognitive sciences; with Robert Bucker, German doctor in quantum physics, and Renate Quehenberger, quantum film director.

"This piece does not want to tell a story, it does not pretend to be a formal work with a beginning and an end, it does not manipulate a discourse or expose a contingent problem, it does not represent an ideology, it does not try to recreate a situation. It is an experience between human beings that allows us to generate personal or collective questions live, about our perception of elementary things, such as shapes, the body, time-space, energy, and the inexhaustible possibility of connecting that information with our personal or contextual archive, giving a free interpretation or meaning to those who observe and participate," explains Sergio. Valenzuela.
