Matilda

Matilde Pérez would be 100 years old today. As a tribute to this pioneering visual artist of kinetic art in Chile, the prominent choreographer José Vidal created Matilde, a work of dance, music and mapping inspired by the distinctive elements of Pérez's work.

Kinetic art is characterized by its movement, which can be real or the result of an optical illusion. Pérez explored both, with creations of geometric abstraction, optical illusions and electricity. Its shapes, colors and lights are the axes of this montage, produced by Fundación CorpArtes and Balmaceda Arte Joven.

The work is divided into four parts. In the first, we play with the optical illusion, with the ambiguity between what is and what is seen. In the second, the focus is on color and vibration. The third rescues the figure of the kaleidoscope with digital and analog projections. And the fourth, exposes the calm of the finished work.
