A show inspired by the classic postcard of the Latin imagination, with feathers, dances and recognizable rhythms, falls apart. What at first seems like an entertaining show overflowing with brilliance and fantasy begins to crack. Pepo Silva directs this GAM dance production, the result of an artistic residency carried out in 2025 with performers chosen by national call.

Origins and collapses and after that, the dance. Thus was born MAJAMAMA, a "body manifesto disguised as a spectacle", according to its creators, which comes to GAM as a celebration of the impure, of the amorphous power of the mestizo.

"We thought about creating a work that would talk about our origins, but we couldn't find them. Everything that surrounded us seemed close to us, and at the same time, foreign. We discovered ourselves as huachos with a broken heritage, mestizo bodies, quilters who respond to many names without completely belonging to any. In that confused and jumbled genealogy, a power also appears: that of being many things at the same time. Thus, we become indecipherable, unclassifiable and indomitable," he says. Pepo Silva, director of the montage created in an artistic residency and which has six performers.

The piece is presented as a "corporeal manifesto that disguises itself as a spectacle", and arrives at GAM as a celebration of the unfinished: a puzzle of Latin pieces that resist being ordered and classified, seeking the power of the encounter in diversity.

"Majamama is a sweaty song from the open wound of Latin America, where heat is not just temperature, but an aesthetic, a politics and a way of being together without asking permission," emphasizes Silva.
