Before it was a dance piece, Juckwent viral. A viral of dance, girl power and humor that has accumulated more than 145 thousand views on YouTube since its launch in 2013. In less than 4 minutes, five women dressed in Scottish school uniforms shake their hips to the rhythm of a song that fuses classical and electronic sounds. The hypnotic music and the pelvic movement of the video inspire and revive in Juck, the work that the company of the same name premiered in 2015 in Stockholm and that now comes to GAM.

Through urban dance and performance, this creation seeks to expand the ideas of femininity, gender and sexuality. On stage, these concepts are represented in the terms of each of the six performers. With references so varied that they range from selfies for social networks to hakas. Furthermore, the work seeks, with its playful and overflowing spirit, to challenge the conventions of the relationship between performers and audience.

“Juck shatters the ideals and images of what girls are expected to be.” The phrase is from the jury of the Biennale of Performing Arts for Children and Young People in Sweden, Bibu 2016, where it obtained a mention from the jury.

As a play, Juck has been performed more than 40 times in Sweden and Germany. The group, which has been working together since 2011, has also collaborated with prominent Swedish feminist artists, such as Beatrice Eli, Silvana Imam and Cleo.

Juck was produced in cooperation with Dansens Hus (International Scene of Contemporary Dance, Stockholm).
