Six international and free works will be brought to GAM at the 2015 Butoh Festival.

Butō, or dance into darkness, is a technique created after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Its creators, shocked by what happened, established a new language that challenged convention and that is today known throughout the world. It delves into the grotesque, the dark and the decadent and it is common for its performers to perform naked or painted white. It also explores the transmutation of the body into other forms such as smoke, dust, objects or animals.

From Mexico, Eugenia Vargas travels to the unconscious to look at herself in the darkness and reinvent herself in light from the shadows. The piece arises from a long process of exploration where the members of the company worked under the theme of black death and white death, related to the mythical journey of Quetzalcóatl.
“The fragments of your memory” - Mi 30, 8:30 p.m., Room A2
The Chilean organizers of the festival, the Ruta de la Memoria Theater Company, put on this play, described as "a transition from anguish to hope." In this poetic creation, the experience of death is delved into as an event that marks stages in the history of humanity and in our lives.

France arrives with the artist Lucie Betz, who will interpret in her work broken forms, fallen ideas and the search for the body that will be reborn without form.
“Human Form” - Fri 2, 8:30 p.m., Room A2
The great Minako Seki, founder of one of the first butoh groups in Europe, will show a mix between contemporary dance, physical theater and butoh technique. The piece examines objects or entities that can assume the human form, where the body extends to puppets, robots, corpses and disembodied spirits.
“Before the dawn” - Sat 3, 8:30 p.m., Room A2
Japanese dancer and choreographer Yumiko Yoshioka investigates the interaction between dance, space and visual art. She creates a world of images of the unconscious through the repeated breaks in her body, from where sublime and monstrous creatures are born.
“Cassandra speaks” - Sun 4, 7:30 p.m., Room A2
The passage from speaking to listening is what Argentine Rhea Volij will present in this work that tries to clarify what is true in a world full of words.
