The dancer Natalia García Huidobro and the choreographer Pablo Zamorano join forces with the playwright Isidora Stevenson to present this production that imagines and honors the feminine world of the indigenous peoples of Chile.

“Here I am singing, the wind carries me. The power of those who have already departed speaks through me…” (ceremonial song in the voice of Lola Kiepja).

FUEGUINAS is a work of invocation and memory that immerses itself in the universe and worldview of indigenous women. The work summons the voice of Elisa Avendaño Curaqueo as an omniscient presence that guides a scenic ceremony. From the threshold between wakefulness and absence, the staging restores memories, weaving body, sound and ritual as living material to summon the absent. The Moon, as a protective and fugitive figure, accompanies the journey through a history of knowledge, myths and bodies.

Directed by Natalia García-Huidobro, choreography by Pablo Zamorano, dramaturgy by Isidora Stevenson and curatorial words by Lemi Ponifasio, FUEGUINAS is proposed as an act of healing and regeneration of the collective well-being of Chile. The work honors surviving communities and opens urgent conversations about respect, reciprocity and interdependence between people and Mother Earth. Integrating culture, spirituality, ancestral knowledge, ceremonies and contemporary languages, FUEGUINAS claims art as a space for reconciliation and encounter with the territory, the sense of belonging and history. More than illustrating, this dance restores: it is an echo, it is an offering, and it is a question open to the present. "The creative process and the work are accompanied by Elisa Avendaño Curaqueo, National Music Prize of Chile and cultivator of Mapuche art, whose presence and guidance have contributed to safeguarding the respect and depth of the link with the living traditions that the work evokes."
