GAM will celebrate Dance Day with free classes and presentations, a dance floor and in-room works that will celebrate migration with world rhythms. The activity will include a rehearsal of contemporary Giselle with the BANCH, classes and a performance of Instead of Nothing and a massive performance of Dance As You Want. All completely free.
To celebrate Dance Day, GAM is preparing a series of activities that this year focus on strengthening social reflection on diversity and migration through dance as a universal language.
Everything will begin at 11 am in the Plaza Oriente of the GAM, with free classes of Cuban Son, then of Afro Haitiano with the choreographer and dancer Evens Clersema and also of Cumbia Colombiana.
From 4 p.m., the BANCH will have an open rehearsal of “Giselle” by Mathieu Guilhaumon, a work that opens its 2018 season. This 19th century ballet is one of the greats of the classical choreographic repertoire, however, on this occasion, a staging will be presented from a contemporary reading. After the rehearsal, there will be a conversation with the public.
At 5 p.m. there will be an open class with the cast of “Instead of nothing”, a dance work that comes from the Valdivia Municipal Chamber Ballet and that explores the emotional imagery around water.
The invitation will allow attendees to work on the passages of the work, together with the dancers and under the gaze of choreographer Joel Inzunza Leal. The performance of that work (20 hours), which is in the official GAM season, will also be with free entry after ticket collection.
At 6 p.m., GAM's Central Plaza will become a large dance floor with “Dance as you want”, an intervention by the Gamera collective, which will bring a DJ and the best international music. This party, designed as a free dance practice, will be aimed at collective catharsis based on the dialogue of different musical rhythms, promoting the enjoyment of cultural diversity. The invitation is for people of all ages, children, young people and adults, with the only rule being to dance barefoot and without speaking on the floor.
