Portuguese filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira won 50 awards and none of them were awarded before he turned 70. He is a clear example that it is never too late for an artistic career. In Chile, the company Generación del Ayer set itself a challenge along these lines. A group of dancers over 50 years old decided to remain active, despite the consequences of time and the fact that dance careers usually end much earlier. In October 1996 they premiered their first work, followed by 28 other creations and tours through six countries in America and Europe.
"It is very significant since it began as a desire to 'not sit back and wait for old age' and suddenly we found that everything happened 20 years ago in which we have done many activities. Our work has been continuous, professional and systematic, in classes, rehearsals, seminars, workshops and, above all, in works created by us and for us, always thinking about the public," says Carmen Aros, founder of the company that is now coming to GAM to celebrate these 20 years of award-winning work.
Dance Against Time presents a program with three works that propose a panorama of different aesthetics, sounds and choreographies of the company. What the water gave me (2006), which is based on the painting The two Fridas to pay tribute to Frida Kahlo; The presentation begins with a video in tribute to Rayén Méndez, founder of the group along with Carmen Aros, Sonia Uribe and Gastón Baltra
