In an office a young man is challenged by an older man. Costume, masculinity and tension in a dance theater work by the Australian company The Farm, produced by Performing Lines.
“These guys make dance like the Coen brothers make movies.” The director of the Sydney Festival, Lindy Hume, commented on Cockfight(Cockfight), a production that opens the GAM International Series. The dance theater piece is set in a realistic office, with desks, phones and papers. There two men face each other, in a fight of generational, masculine and work tension. It is a combative coexistence with suits, strength, humor and tenderness where all the elements can add to the physical fight, from the chairs to the ties.
The company's play The Farm, produced by Performing Lines, explores masculinity, ambition and success, stretching the boundaries of dance and physical theater. The dancers and actors Joshua Thomson and Gavin Webber perform the production, directed by them together with Kate Harman and Julian Louis.
The production, which premiered in 2015, has been presented in Australia and eight cities in England.
