Altazor reincarnated

The first condition of the poet is to create; the second, create, and the third, create. The phrase is by Vicente Huidobro and was said, as he himself remembered, in Buenos Aires during the winter of 1916. It was this triple reiteration of the verb that motivated him to be classified for the first time as a creationist 100 years ago.

To celebrate the centenary of creationism, Paula Meru took as her starting point Altazor (1931), Huidobro's best-known work, which inspired Altazor re-incarnated. The production unites contemporary dance with bharatanatyam, a classical dance from India, of a religious nature, with rhythmic games and great gestural work.

The work is structured in seven scenes inspired by the seven songs of Altazor. Movement, sound and words fill a stripped space. "The image of the fall, the search and the anguish of not recognizing what is in front of our eyes, the confusion, is present. Also the amazement and beauty of the creative spirit," says Paula, who is also a member of the cast along with Daniela Pizarro and Abel Reyes.
