against time

“I never think about the future, it comes soon,” said Albert Einstein. If not even a genius was saved from the urgency of time more than 50 years ago, the outlook for common earthlings in this hyperconnected present is clearly no more encouraging. Rush, delay, acceleration, anger and violence. That line of stress inspires Against Time, the first work created by Enrique Faúndez.

"I brought to the work the rhythm of the people and situations that I see on the street. On the one hand there is the chaos of the subway, the tacos, the waits to be served somewhere, the people walking like zombies looking at their cell phones and without looking ahead. On the other hand there is the calm of love within this chaos, but also with its problems, it even reaches violence," says the dancer who debuts as a choreographer after a long career as a dancer: he was a leading figure in the Bafochi and was part of the Chamber Ballet from the Municipal Theater and BANCH, with which he was nominated for an Altazor award in 2013. He also won the reality show Fama, which Channel 13 broadcast in 2007.

Faúndez fuses different styles both in movements and music. Break dance and hip hop come together with ballet and contemporary dance, while listening to the beats of Dj Shadow, the piano of Michael Nyman and original creations by Oscar Contreras and Carolina Holzapfel.
