100% political (the other's eyes)

Democracy in Chile was not even a year and a half old when the Arte La Vitrina Collective was born. It was August 1991 when it emerged as an extension project of the FECH and dance students from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile. Nelson Avilés was then the head of that group and remains so today, when they celebrate 25 years with the premiere of 100%political (the eyes of the other).

The work is aligned with the history of La Vitrina, with emblematic montages such as Status quo and Cannon fodder: it is a collective creation of political content. Declarations of principles that permeate, in fact, his name and title. For this reason, Avilés takes the role of “moderator” instead of “director”, so that democracy is not only part of the discourse, but also of the process. “The collective tries to mobilize democratic collaboration, questioning individualism, consumerist alienation, the crisis of meaning and the disconnection with the natural resources that sustain our existence,” he says. 

On stage, seven dancers perform a stage dialogue that seeks to question the impact of the free market on society, both in its public and private repercussions. They are, in the words of Avilés, "Bodies that circulate generating proximities or distances, intimate or distant needs. Invitations about bodies that expand, dilate, fall, recover, wait, breathe, transpire and exist, always for the other, for the other, with the other. Daily actions, secret words that detail commitments of humanity installed in prehistoric genetics, which have kept every human group cohesive. Sequences of skills that demonstrate all those habits that define the uses and communication of people and that in contemporary times, reach maximum diversity in art and dance.”
