Choir Day

Five vocal groups take over the GAM spaces in a day dedicated to sound diversity, identity and tradition. A free invitation to connect with the power of the human voice through repertoires ranging from Cuban sacred music to pop with a gender perspective.

Programming and groupings:

• Cenit Choir: They will present fragments of Requiem Osun, by the Cuban Calixto Álvarez. A fascinating work that fuses the liturgical text of the mass for the dead with the songs of Afro-Cuban Santeria, achieving a unique vocal color that transitions between written tradition and Caribbean roots.
• Queer Chile Choir: Born in 2022, this space of resistance and LGBTIQA+ community challenges the binary structures of traditional choral music. Their repertoire revitalizes popular music and emblematic songs of the collective from a playful, inclusive approach with a gender perspective.
• Q'inti Vocal Ensemble: Female group directed by Karen Vásquez Sepúlveda. Through self-management and a collaborative approach, this 12-voice ensemble specializes in the study and dissemination of Latin American folk music with original arrangements and a careful stage proposal.
• UC Music Choir Chair: Under the academic training of the Music Institute of the Catholic University, this ensemble exhibits the technical and artistic work of conducting and singing students. Their repertoire usually covers great works from the universal canon and pieces by prominent contemporary composers.
• UC Student Choir: Made up of students from various majors at the Pontifical Catholic University, this cast stands out for its versatility and enthusiasm. Their participation seeks to bring choral singing closer to the university and general community, performing a diverse repertoire that connects the academy with popular culture.
