The Music Institute of the Catholic University (IMUC) presents the "Golden Legend" program at GAM, which will pay tribute to Erik Satie on the one hundredth anniversary of the death of this French composer.

In a new installment of the 61st UC Chamber Season in GAM, three arias from Genevieve de Brabant will be heard, a theatrical comedy with which Erik Satie rescued at the beginning of the 20th century the heroine that Bishop Jacobus De Voragine had immortalized 700 years earlier in his book Golden Legend.

Four piano pieces will be added in which the French composer drew in music the ogives of Gothic cathedrals, also recreating the sound of an organ. He wrote them in 1889 and they are precisely titled Ogivas.

The program will also include three works that are inspired by medieval resources and aesthetics. Two of them are choral and were born in the 21st century: Sainte-Chapelle by Eric Whitacre (1970) - which evokes the stained glass windows of a famous Parisian Gothic chapel from the 13th century - and Unicornis captivatur by Ola Gjeilo (1978).

The third is for chamber music, for trumpet, two flutes and string quartet and was written by Satie's teacher: Vicent d'Indy: it is titled Suite dans le style ancien, Op.24.

The program will be completed with two works by composers who are also French and contemporaries of Erik Satie: Suite en Trio by Mel Bonis and Funerary Estela by Charles Koechlin.

The vocal soloists will be guest soprano Claudia Figueroa and UC lyrical singing student Nikolas Tobar. The UC Student Choir will perform and the instrumentalists will include five teachers and two students from the UC Music Institute. It will be directed by academic Felipe Ramos Taky.
