The composer and academic from the Department of Music (DMUS) of the University of Chile presents 18 pieces performed by the outstanding artist Paulina Zamora

The composer and professor Edgardo Cantón will make the national launch of the album and sheet music book “Inmanencias: 18 Preludes for Piano” at GAM, with the performance of Paulina Zamora.

The works of Cantón, an academic at the Department of Music at the University of Chile, cover a period of 34 years and include everything from works composed during his student days to recent pieces; some of which had remained forgotten for years and others accompanied him on his travels around the world.

The album was recorded at the Teatro del Lago in Frutillar towards the end of the pandemic and was performed by pianist Paulina Zamora, also a DMUS academic. According to Cantón, as a presentation of the work, the works "come to life in the prodigious hands of Paulina, and see the light in this wonderful place in the south of the world, in this magnificent Lake Theater in Frutillar. In this magical southern land, they vibrate like an ephemeral sound flash and disappear in the silence of the lake."

The work also included the edition of a book with scores of the 18 pieces, which was published by the prestigious French publishing house Delatour and which will allow pianists from all over the world to purchase their music online.

Born in Paris, Cantón has a special relationship with France and its culture, as well as with Spain, where he lived while working at the Laboratory of Electronic Music (LIEM) at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid. For this reason, in 2024 he made the international launch of the album and the book in the auditorium of the Teresa Berganza Conservatory in Madrid, also with Paulina Zamora.

The phonographic record was in charge of academic Leonardo Cendoyya from the Sound Department of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile.
