The Oriente Saxophone Quartet presents its concert "Saxophones in Chilean and Latin American music" as part of the Concert Season of the Music Department of the University of Chile.
The presentation includes three works by two authors (one by Enrique Soro and two by Pedro Humberto Allende) that were adapted for saxophone quartet and four written especially for the format (by Sergio Berchenko, Luis Advis, Claudio Acevedo and the Venezuelan Juan López-Maya, the latter absolute premiere).
Professor Miguel Villafruela, leader of the group, comments that "it is a program with pieces influenced, for the most part, by popular music and dances from Latin America. Some works are more elaborate and others simpler, but all have a great compositional quality."
The Oriente Saxophone Quartet began its performances in April 2014, as an independent chamber ensemble, with the aim of disseminating chamber music written for this instrumental group in Chile, emphasizing original works by Chilean and Latin American creators.
