Reading Mediation by Gabriela Mistral
The following Reading Mediation Guides are developed by the GAM team based on the work “Mistral, Gabriela (1945)”, a dramatic text written by the playwright Andrés Kalawski.
The play takes place in Petrópolis, Brazil, the same night that the poet receives the announcement that she has won the Nobel Prize for Literature. At that moment she is kidnapped by a feminist group, but it will be Alicia, the visible face of this group, who will seek to deliver a message from the writer. In the work, reality and fiction are intertwined, and facts from the life of Lucila Godoy Alcayaga (1889-1957) are reviewed, her visions of the world, her political opinion, her social commitment, her relationship with the earth, her pains and her hopes.
