Women Playwrights International Meeting

Territory, society and gender are the axes that this year articulate Women Playwrights International (WPI), an event that since 1988 has taken place every three years in venues on the five continents and that now arrives for the first time in Latin America.

Three works will be staged at GAM. From Colombia comes La que no fue, a work written and directed by Carolina Vivas Ferreira, a kaleidoscope of monologues that cross the theatrical and the narrative. From Norway comes A Remarkable Person, a work written and directed by Pernille Dahl Johnsen, which humorously explores contemporary philosophy and psychology. Time without books, by the Norwegian Lene Teigen, is presented in a montage by the Uruguayan Cecilia Caballero, to investigate the intimate memory surrounding the dictatorship.

Nearly twenty dramatized readings will present texts by playwrights from Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico, the United States, Canada, Australia, Spain, Norway, Belgium, Syria, Iran and Palestine. Among the directors in charge are Heidrun Breier, Mariana Muñoz and Amalá Saint Pierre.

In addition, Isidora, the film, a documentary by Christian Aylwin and Nicolás Superby, about Isidora Aguirre, will be screened; followed by a conversation about great Latin American playwrights.
