A conversation within the framework of Theatrical Heritage Day, where we will reflect on the space of culture in the future constitution.

One of the objectives of the Cabildo is to redefine the 2020 Theater Heritage Day, opening the spaces that will participate in the Teatro a Mil Festival to host a debate and dialogue about the new Chile we want. For this reason, together with FITAM, INTELLIGENT CITIZENSHIP, the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Chile, together with all the other spaces that participate, the public and participants of the different Theaters and Cultural Centers are being called to participate in a town hall that seeks to advance the question of: What role does culture have in a new constitution? in the face of the constituent process that is being forged.

Unlike other cultural town halls that have been held, this one seeks to encourage the participation of publics and audiences from different spaces, and not only that of artists and cultural workers.

Since we will work with the same methodology in the different spaces (created in conjunction with the Fundación Ciudadania Inteligente), the results can be consolidated in a single report with the help of the FACSO, in order to have a document that we hope will be useful for future constituents.

Town hall results

The different cultural town halls that were held in alliance with GAM, Aldea del Encuentro, Espacio Matta Cultural Center, Renca House of Culture, in addition to the Odeón Theater of Valparaíso and the Austral Theater School of Coyhaique, gave results that were systematized by a team from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Chile, led by María Elena Acuña, director of extension of said faculty.

The data obtained in each of the town hall meetings were transcribed and analyzed through the atlas.ti software, grouping the proposals of the participants in the following 12 dimensions: constitution and public policies, access to culture, social protection of artists, artistic education, communication and media, interculturality, memory and heritage, gender, inclusion, environment, mental health and reading promotion.

All the information on the citizen cultural councils is available in the attached document in PUBLICATIONS. These data seek to contribute to the discussion about the relevance that culture, the arts and the opinion that artists, cultural workers, publics and communities should have in a new fundamental charter regarding the constituent process, and in particular, what are the dreams and desires for a new Chile and the proposals that they collectively emanate for it.
