El Día Más Corto 2026 returns with a program of Chilean short films that competed in Berlin, Venice, Locarno and Tribeca. The free exhibition will bring together 81 minutes of contemporary Chilean cinema of high international standing and will include a post-screening conversation with directors, producers and actors.
Within the framework of the winter solstice of the southern hemisphere, Chile once again celebrates The Shortest Day (ED+C), the international initiative that seeks to promote short films as a first-rate artistic expression. This year, the exhibition comes to the GAM Center with a selection of five recently produced Chilean short films, all with an outstanding track record in world-class festivals, forming an 81-minute program that reflects the maturity, thematic diversity and the global projection of national cinema.
The programming combines fiction, documentary and experimental animation; addresses historical memory, migration, diasporic identity, generational anguish and the search for paradise in a machinic utopia. Together, these five short films offer a polyphonic portrait of Chile and its ties to the world.
The sample includes four female directors and co-directors, with female protagonists in most of the stories and the presence of outstanding acting figures such as Paulina Urrutia and Catalina Saavedra.

- Synopsis: Set in Chile in 1982, it reconstructs an episode of the dictatorship where a woman cares for a young woman with autism while she receives babies to deliver them clandestinely in the center of Santiago, addressing the systematic theft of newborns.

- Direction: Francisca and Andrés Khamis Giacoman
- Synopsis: Co-production between Chile, Palestine and Spain that follows the fans of the Palestine Sports Club, building a dialogue that reflects on identity, exile, football and the meaning of return with the voices of Lina Meruane and Muhammed Odeh.
- Milestones: World premiere in the competitive section Pardi di Domani of the Locarno Festival 2025 and selection at the Doha Film Festival (DFF).
Merrimundi · Experimental animation · 21 min
- Director: Niles Atallah
- Synopsis: A bold work that unfolds a twisted utopia where singing cherubs melt to the sound of decomposition. It mixes artisanal stop-motion, animation, glitch effects and religious chant, presented as a creative resistance in the era of the algorithm.
- Milestones: World premiere in the Orizzonti section of the 82nd Biennale di Venezia 2025, in addition to exhibitions at Viennale 2025 and FICValdivia 2025.
Sunset in America · Documentary · 17 min
- Director: Matías Rojas Valencia
- Synopsis: An intimate and sensory look at migration through the story of Bárbara, a 14-year-old Venezuelan teenager who remembers the dangerous night she crossed the Andean Altiplano at 4,000 meters above sea level to reach Chile.
- Milestones: World premiere in the Generation 14plus section of the Berlinale 2025, where it won the Special Mention Award from the Young Jury for Best Documentary Short Film.
Future Graduate · Fiction · 13 min
- Direction: Samantha Copano and Florencia Peña
- Synopsis: Late coming-of-age story that delicately and humorously narrates the uncertainty of Emilia (23 years old) while finishing her university thesis, who seeks to take control of her future by trying to obtain her driver's license.
- Milestones: World premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival (New York) and Best Short Film Award at the SANFIC 2025 National Talent Competition.
