“Ecological Urbanism” Symposium

Three round tables will be organized, moderated and headed by leading academics from GSD Harvard University: Mohsen Mostafavi, Charles Waldheim, Diane Davis and Gareth Doherty.  The event will also feature a subsequent discussion with MoMA architecture curator Pedro Gadanho. At the end of the day, the exhibition will be inaugurated and the book “Ecological Urbanism” will be presented, which was born from the pressing need to address urban planning from an ecological approach as a practical and imaginative method to confront the reality of the city.

The first panel, introduced by Charles Waldheim, titled “Anticipate/Adapt”, will discuss how an emerging geography of Latin America faces extreme situations, such as explosive growth, large migrations, natural disasters and drastic demographic changes, among others.

The second panel introduced by Diane Davis, titled “Measure/Mobilize”, will present the intensification of urbanization, the built form and the socio-economic character of Latin American cities.

A third panel introduced by Gareth Doherty and titled “Heal/Feel” is about getting to know the city better, designing and planning it in a more ecological way, encompassing multiple ecologies.
