Comedy and horror come together in The Merchant of Death, a 1973 film that shows a Shakespearean actor who takes revenge, one by one, on the critics who destroyed his career. The film by English director Douglas Hickox will be shown on April 3 at GAM, opening the cycle Shakespeare in the cinema, presented by the British Council.
On April 6 comes Romeo and Juliet (1968), by Italian Franco Zeffirelli. On April 8, Macbeth (1971) by Polish director Roman Polanski will be screened. On April 9 comes Hamlet (1996) by Kenneth Branagh, played by Julie Christie and Kate Winslet. The cycle ends on April 10 with Hamlet (2015), by Margaret Williams and Sarah Frankcom, who hand the role of the prince to actress Maxine Peake. The films are presented with subtitles.
