Pop up Santiago

Between next Tuesday, November 21 and Saturday, November 25, in the central courtyard of the GAM, Red Bull Radio will set up a modular studio that will host Pop Up Santiago, a radio event that will broadcast live eight hours a day of conversation, musical selections and live shows that will talk about miscegenation, crisis and the search for what is known today as Chilean musical identity.

The more than 30 radio programs that will be produced during that week can be heard live from the official Red Bull Radio signal on www.redbullradio.com or by downloading the app for mobile devices. You can also attend the GAM for free to see the conversations and musical presentations live. 

SeaNovember 21 - SICODELIAS
Half a century since the first psychedelic rock albums made in Chile, it is a good time to reflect on its legacy and listen to the various ways in which traveling sounds were assimilated and fused with our culture and landscapes. We will discover rites and instruments of native peoples, we will indulge in electronic meditations and we will receive the expansive waves of the new names of local psychedelia. 

Wednesday, November 22 - RHYMES AND BEATS
Our people have always expressed themselves through rhymes and current generations deserve to know that tradition. We will review the history of local hip-hop through its lyrics and vocals of its protagonists, together with prominent producers we will decipher how albums of the genre are made in Chile, we will learn about new labels and artists that combine beats with other rhythms and we will attend a class on popular poetry and Chilean guitarrón. 

Thursday, November 23 - EXPLORERS
In a conservative society and with an industry suspicious of change, we celebrate those who dare to go against the current, try sounds, strain styles or simply make noise. The pioneers who experimented with synthesizers 60 years ago, the most avant-garde and hidden work of Violeta Parra or the musicians who, from the academy or the underground, take risks in jazz, rock, punk or electronics have their well-deserved place this day. 

Friday, November 24 - MESTIZAJES
As part of Latin America, languages, races, traditions, flavors and colors come together in Chile. And, of course, music, between the harmonies and forms inherited from the European conquerors, the rhythms that the slaves brought from Africa and the instruments and rituals of the native peoples. This day we will review the history of tropical music in Chile, we will listen to tasty electro-Andean mixes and together with rock figures with identity we will analyze the pioneers of these fusions.

Saturday, November 25 - MACHINES
Beyond genres or styles, electronics is a way of conceiving and producing sounds that is made with machines. On the last day of broadcasts we will hear a panorama of national electronic music, some oriented to the dance floor and others harder and more experimental. We will also refresh our memory about the first names of Chilean techno and reflect on the working methods and the most vigorous scenes. Everything, of course, with a lot of rhythm.
