"Bodies in motion: Relational and spatial dynamics in the dance of Latin American migrants in Santiago"

This paper explores the role of Latin American migrant dance in the generation of meeting spaces in the city of Santiago (Chile). From the post-migration approach, various experiences are addressed, which, although they were promoted by people of foreign origin, their staging transcends the migrant label and blurs the contours of identity and belonging. I resort to the theoretical-methodological considerations of urban settings to narrate and analyze ethnographic stories in which the bodies, sounds and movements of dances in public or semi-public spaces modify the urban experience and claim the presence of those who make a new place of residence their own. The proposal is inserted in the debates around the role of art in the construction of spaces for coexistence, in a context in which tolerance is challenged daily by the affective qualities of difference.

“Questions for and from the Andean mask: a path of problematization around the understanding of the artistic in the context of the Andean festival”

This presentation will focus on the study of the Andean festival from the analysis of the artistic disciplines that comprise it. Taking the mask in the context of Andean dances as a triggering device for research, the notions of artistic creation and ritual will be problematized, to put into dialogue the hegemonic understandings that prevail in the artistic-performing studies of the Latin American territory today, versus the colonial notions of miscegenation, folklore and crafts, still valid in their popular, artistic, museographic and academic use, in the countries that make up the cordon Andean. Questions and experiences will be shared from ethnographies carried out in the festivals of La Virgen del Carmen de la Tirana, La Virgen de Guadalupe de Ayquina and El Señor de Quyllurit'i, complemented with the observation of political theatricalities in the urban context of Santiago de Chile in the last 15 years and the contemporary hybrid scene.

Some experiences will be presented where art (burlap and literary stories) was used as a device to re-represent a complex and highly stigmatized social phenomenon such as migration, investigating new forms of intervention through re-presentations.
