Midnight Museums 2017

Midnight Museums is an initiative that invites you to visit museums and cultural centers in different places in the country, from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and free of charge. In this new version, which will take place on Friday, October 13, you will be able to see different exhibitions and activities that will make this a unique experience.

With an attendance of approximately fifty thousand visitors each season, this nighttime cultural circuit has emerged, from the beginning, as an attractive and innovative event for the public, bringing the entire community closer to culture, heritage and different artistic manifestations.

In this 31st version, the initiative has the support and participation of Metro, Turistik, Bikesantiago, Bicipaseos Patrimoniales and Cultura Mapocho in the Metropolitan Region.

Activities at GAM 

HERITAGE COLLECTION
Guided tours to the original heritage art collection from the seventies that was rescued after the military coup and the fire of the building in 2006. They are sculptures and paintings by artists such as Sergio Castillo, José Venturelli, among others.

REREADING VIOLET
Two simultaneous exhibitions celebrate Violeta Parra's centenary at GAM:

Al hilo de Violeta is an exhibition that brings together more than 100 pieces that are linked to the spirit of Violeta Parra's textile creation. The exhibition includes works of embroidery, tapestry, lanigraphy and textile collage. A burlap attributed to Violeta Parra herself and works by embroiderers and weavers from different periods are exhibited.

Violet and instinctive painting is an exhibition of 56 paintings, among them La muerte del Angelito made by the national singer-songwriter. The remaining 55 are part of the MAPA collection of paintings by artists without formal academic education (instinctive painting) and who share imagery with Parra's work.

GABRIELA AND VIOLET
GAM celebrates the centenary of the birth of Violeta Parra with a provocative bet: it inaugurated two life-size wool dolls of Violeta Parra and Gabriela Mistral, two great women who are available to the public in the central square to take selfies, let their thoughts be known and thus be a great postcard for all visitors.
Made with almost 5 kilos of wool, both dolls are installed in GAM as a way to pay tribute to the singer-songwriter on her centenary and make her dialogue with the Nobel Prize winner in literature. They are crocheted and woven by the artist Macarena Ahumada, and are accompanied by a large diary, printed on fabric, which reveals a hot interview and real answers declared by them in songs, tenths, books and texts. There, they discuss topics such as child protection, inequality, gender violence, discrimination and corruption without mincing words.
