Men weavers at GAM

Hombres Tejedores is a group that began its activities a year ago, and has achieved the attention of local and international media thanks to its creative work with a clear objective: to break down stereotypes and gender roles, making visible new manifestations of masculinity through interest in weaving.

They have carried out public interventions, discussions and activities under the motto "Breaking stereotypes transforms us into a more inclusive and tolerant society", in different public spaces such as the Forest Park, the Fine Arts Museum, San Cristóbal Hill and GAM. In these places they develop different activities and workshops that seek to encourage men to practice this discipline.

"There is a super clear sense of why we want to go out and knit in public spaces. We as a group are super interested in making visible the importance of breaking gender stereotypes. This has affected different disciplines that we believe should be practiced by everyone, without distinction," explains Ricardo Higuera, a member of the collective. 

For her part, Pamela López, Director of Programming and Audiences at GAM, comments on the relevance of this activity. "It is important for us to welcome the Weaver Men because beyond diversity and breaking stereotypes, it is in line with the appropriation of public space that GAM wants to promote for the communities. It links us with the territory and allows us to host other expressions as a Cultural Center," he says.

All men who want to participate, who know or want to learn how to knit, are cordially invited.
