In this conference called The background and art direction in "The secret of Kells" and "Song of the sea", Adrien Mérigeau will show us the world behind these two productions, in which he worked as Background Supervisor in “The Secret of Kells” and as Art Director in “Song of the Sea”.

With an aesthetic and art that characterizes them, “The Secret of Kells” (2009) and “Song of the Sea” (2014) have been called by specialized critics as a poetic experience. All this thanks to its characteristic hand-painted landscapes, with watercolor textures and lines with varied colors and widths.

Mérigeau, a French filmmaker and animator, studied animation at the Ecole des Métiers du Cinéma d’Animation in Angoulême, France. To date, he has worked at the Cartoon Saloon studio, on feature films such as "The Secret of Kells" (2009) and "Song of the Sea" (2014), both nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards in 2010 and 2015, respectively. In addition, Adrien directed the short film “Old Fangs” (2009), which was awarded at festivals such as Sundance and Annecy.

This activity is organized with the support of the French Institute.
