The Chilean Science Fiction and Fantasy Literature Association brings together authors, authors and specialists around speculative literature, comics, translation and the imaginaries of the global south.
From the essay to the graphic narrative, this cycle invites us to reflect on literary creation, the languages that cross borders and the lines that think, imagine and shape new possible worlds.

Javiera Irribarren (United States - Chile)
She has a doctorate in Latin American and Iberian Cultures from Columbia University (New York, USA). She currently works as a visiting professor in the Department of Language and Literature at Sarah Lawrence College (New York, USA). Based on his doctoral research, he is working on a book proposal about contemporary comics from Brazil and Chile that imagine alternative futurities through racial and ethnic representations. His research focuses on contemporary Latin American culture and media, with an emphasis on comics, film, and transmedia narratives. Her academic and teaching interests include teaching Spanish, visual culture, critical race theory, and environmental humanities. Javiera is co-founder of the Graphic Narrative Investigative Network (RING-Latam) and has published indexed articles on Latin American science fiction and material culture.
Gustavo Bondoni (Argentina)
Gustavo Bondoni is a novelist and short story writer, awarded, in 2025, with first place in the Jim Baen Memorial Short Story Award, in addition to having been awarded second place and an honorable mention in the James White Award. It has more than five hundred stories published in fifteen countries and seven languages. He has published across the broad spectrum of fantasy literature: science fiction novels, including two trilogies, six monster books, a military fantasy, and a thriller. His short fiction is collected in Thin Air (2023), Pale Reflection (2020), Off the Beaten Path (2019), Tenth Orbit and Other Faraway Places (2010), and Virtuoso and Other Stories (2011).

Beyond fiction are the foundations that support it: the essay, criticism, editing and collective reflection. This opening panel, guided by the IMAGINISTAS team, explores that hidden architecture that allows fantastic, speculative and experimental literature to evolve and dialogue with its time.
A conversation about that which is not always seen, but that supports everything we imagine: the scaffolding that gives shape to wonder.

The line that thinks: comics, imagination and possible worlds
The comic as a language of speculative thought: a space where drawing becomes territory, the word becomes experience and the imagination becomes memory.
From different creative and critical trajectories, the participants dialogue about the construction of worlds from the south, between mythology, science fiction and the Latin American visual gaze.
A meeting that proposes thinking of graphic narrative as a living reflection, capable of articulating memory, body and landscape, and imagining futures that are born, like the vignettes, from that line that thinks.

Publishing in more than one language means crossing linguistic, cultural and editorial spaces. This panel brings together voices that write, translate and edit from that tension.
The challenges of creative translation, multilingual writing and the possibilities of imagining a truly permeable literary ecosystem will be explored, where words travel and transform to cross—without asking permission—the borders of language.
