Shodō, which in Japanese means: “the way of writing” is Japanese calligraphy. It is considered a very difficult art and discipline to perfect and is taught as a compulsory subject to Japanese children during their primary education. In addition to requiring great precision and grace on the part of the scribe, each character of letters must be written according to a specific stroke order, which increases the discipline required of those who practice this art.
