Aldo Garay's first film had such overwhelming force that its shadow has marked all of his subsequent work. Several of the characters that appear here were repeated and fed into their future films. However, the images of I, the Most Tremendous have an aesthetic rawness and a more sordid atmosphere than the rest of his filmography, which was refined over time.
The first scene is a theatricalization of the experiences of this group of transvestites, laughingly recounting while putting on makeup the mistreatment they receive from their brothel clients. There is in that scene a kind of declaration of principles that Garay never betrayed: let them speak. The sincerity and stoicism with which they later give their testimonies contrasts with the disturbing content of their stories. I, the most tremendous has a more amateur imprint, but still enjoys a fascinating freshness, a desire to explore a world that was eager to be portrayed.
