Book Fury 2018

Consolidated as one of the most relevant meetings of independent literature and publishing in Latin America, La Furia del Libro will hold this year the “Latin American Dialogues” with the title Feeling the continent with words, in collaboration with the National Book and Reading Council, and with the presence of 12 renowned authors.

The Argentines Edgardo Cozarinsky, María Sonia Cristoff, Selva Almada, Damián Tabarovsky, Daniel Link, Patricio Pron, J.P. Zooey, the Salvadoran Horacio Castellanos Moya, the Ecuadorian Esteban Mayorga, the Mexican Fernanda Melchor, and the Uruguayans Inés Bortagaray and Horacio Cavallo, will be the guests for this occasion, where they will participate in conferences, readings and book signings.

In addition, all authors will be sharing their editorial news, already published or in preparation. For example, Edgardo Cozarinsky, who has just won the Gabriel García Márquez Hispanic American Short Story Prize, will present his book Huérfanosand the documentary Letter to a Father; Uruguayan writer Inés Bortagaray, Special Jury Prize at the 2016 Sundance Festival for the screenplay of My Friend of the Park, launches her book Prontos, Listas, Ya; Selva Almada, translated into seven languages ​​by The wind that ravages (2012) will present this book published in Chile last year; and J.P. Zooey launches her unpublished book Manija with a Chilean publisher. Daniel Link, Esteban Mayorga and María Sonia Cristoff will also present their new books at La Furia.

Among the local proposals will be present a significant number of Chilean authors who have set the standard in recent years, such as Alejandra Costamagna (finalist of the 2018 Herralde Novel Prize and winner of the MOL for best unpublished novel), Lina Meruane, Andrea Jeftanovic, Camila Gutiérrez, Natalia Berbelagua, Camila Valenzuela León, Claudia Andrade, Gladys González, Paula Ilabaca, Karina Cocq, Lyuba Yez, Sol Díaz, among others. In addition, the inauguration will feature a poetic reading by Elvira Hernández, 2018 Pablo Neruda Ibero-American Poetry Prize winner.

And as a novelty, Plaza Zócalo will be opened for the first time for workshops and stage activities. For the traditional Furious Reading, it is now possible to register by sending an email to activity@lafuriadellibro.com with the subject “I want to read!”, for those who want to share their texts.

With nine years on the map, La Furia del Libro has managed to position Chile as the capital of independent publishing in Latin America: not only is it the oldest event of this type and with the largest audience for each edition, but it concentrates the largest number of international publishers participating. This year the number is a record, with 48 Latin American publishers from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
