When Rolf Bencke was 20 years old, he had a car crash that left him amnesiac, forgetting all the events he had experienced until that day. With the help of his family and friends, he gradually reconstructed those missing memories and assimilated them as his own, but without really remembering them. "They tell me who I am and who I was," Rolf confesses.
The documentary covers different moments of the thirteen years that have passed since the accident, in a montage that can be confusing and dispersed, but that seems to adapt to the mental state of the protagonist who wanders without much clarity or certainty in space-time. However, one obsession crosses all the stages of his new life: building a flying machine powered by humans. Although the idea fails to convince his business friends who think of the invention only as a bad business, Rolf designs, models and makes strange calculations trying to give coherence to his fantastic project. "If people could fly, they could live anywhere," he says almost inadvertently, affirming his rootlessness. Because without memory, there is no belonging or roots.
