Exemplary novels of very honest entertainment was the original title with which Miguel de Cervantes published a compilation of 12 short novels that he had written between 1590 and 1612.
To commemorate the 400th anniversary of Cervantes' death, which falls on April 22, the Cultural Center of Spain invited contemporary playwrights to rewrite the Exemplary Novels. Now four of those Exemplary Theaters are presented in dramatized readings.
On Tuesday, April 19, Guillermo Ugalde will direct Roxana Naranjo and Guilherme Sepúlveda in the reading of Lamedero, the version that the Chilean Roberto Contador made of El licensed Vidriera and which will premiere in October on GAM. On the same day, The Force of Blood will be presented, a work by the Spanish Pablo Fidalgo inspired by the novel of the same name by Cervantes. Pablo Barbatto will direct the reading performed by the Teatro del Territorio company.
On Wednesday, April 20, Diego Agurto will direct actors from the La Comuna company in the dramatized reading of Latin America. This work based on La gitanilla is a creation of the Argentine Maruja Bustamante. On the same day, Rodrigo Canales will direct a cast from the company El Viejo Chico in the reading of Your cursed part, a work by the Argentine Santiago Loza inspired by El jealouso extremeño.
On Wednesday the 20th at 12 noon in Room C1, a forum on the project will be held with Pablo Fidalgo and Roberto Contador. The readings of the Exemplary Theaters come thanks to the collaboration of the Cultural Center of Spain, Espacio CEAT and GAM.
