In Kisangani, Democratic Republic of the Congo, a group of young people is a few months away from taking the official exam to obtain their secondary school certificate. But those who have not paid their teachers' bonus (directly the payment of a part of their salaries) are expelled from the school without objections, having to prepare for the exam on their own.

Dieudo Hamadi follows them as they manage to pass the tests using all kinds of methods to achieve success - from incense burns with local "witches" to participating in the "maquis", houses that are obtained or rented to meet and study together -, and also follows them on their walks through the chaotic streets of the city where they spend their time "making a living".
