Editorial Zig-Zag rescues the work of Gabriela Mistral in a new illustrated book that turns migration into a visually striking metaphor. The work honors the culture of the native peoples and invites you to explore the life of the Kawésqar people through an illustrated glossary.
Years after its publication, Chilean journalists Ricardo Díaz and Andrea Navarro read this poem and imagined that it was about a Kawésqar woman and child sailing through Patagonia, a place where Gabriela Mistral lived and worked for some years. Thus, they invited the illustrator Carlos Denis to imagine this story, which delves into the Patagonian territory, with its flora and fauna, its inhabitants and its history, all hand in hand with the poet's verses.
The project, which had the collaboration of the Dynamic Research Center for High Latitude Marine Ecosystems (IDEAL) of the Austral University of Chile (UACh), aims to recognize and value the native peoples of the extreme south of Chile, in order to preserve their culture and worldviews.
For the launch of Emigration of birds in BiblioGAM María Soledad Falabella, multidisciplinary researcher in gender, sexuality, poetry, performance and writing, will give a presentation. The teacher is a specialist in the work of Gabriela Mistral and was interviewed during the research process for the book. In addition, Andrea Navarro, Carlos Denis and Ricardo Díaz will be present.
