GAM Conversations alert: Crisis or evolution of Chilean journalism?

On this occasion we will address the projection of national journalism regarding its financing and its adaptation to digital support. Experienced journalists will reflect on the challenges that the new scenario leaves with respect to cultural, investigative and social trend journalism.

About the exhibitors

Milena Vodanovic is a journalist from the Catholic University and a master's degree in business management from the Adolfo Ibáñez University. He worked in the magazines Solidaridad, Apsi and Paula, whose editorial team he was part of for 20 years and which he directed between 2007 and 2015. He is currently a member of the board of directors of the recently created multiplatform media Pauta; He teaches classes in the undergraduate degree in Journalism and in the diploma in Non-Fiction Narration at the Alberto Hurtado University and in the Master's Degree in Publishing at the Diego Portales University. She is a female Community Advisor and was in charge of the general edition of the book #lasniñascan, recently launched by the same organization.

Paula Escobar is a journalist from the PUC and a Master in Comparative Literature from the UAI. Former Director of Caras and former Editorial Manager of Televisa Chile, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the ANP and President of its Magazines Commission. She has been Magazine Editor of El Mercurio for sixteen years and is in charge of the six weekly magazines of the newspaper El Mercurio, which top the readership ranking of the Chilean market, in addition to many awards and recognitions for her journalistic quality. She is the author of five books. The last one was “Yo Presidente/a”, in which he interviewed the last five Chilean Presidents.  He has received several awards and distinctions. She has also been a university professor for more than twenty years and currently teaches the Magazine Workshop in the Master of Written Journalism at El Mercurio and the Catholic University, and in the UDP Women and Media Chair.

Yenny Cáceres is a journalist from the University of Chile and a film critic. She has written for the newspapers La Época and El Mercurio, and for Qué Pasa magazine, where she was editor of the Culture section. On two occasions she has been a scholarship recipient of the Foundation for a New Ibero-American Journalism (FNPI) workshops, one of them with the writer Martín Caparrós. His texts have been published in the books Crónicas de carnaval (2006), El cine de Raúl Ruiz (2010) and El mejor journalism chileno 2011 (2012). In 2017 he won the Literary Creation Scholarship from the Book and Reading Fund to write a book about Raúl Ruiz.

Francisca Skoknic is director of the School of Journalism at the Diego Portales University and co-founder of the journalistic chatbot @RobotLaBot. She was deputy director of the CIPER journalistic research center, of which she was a part since its foundation. He has a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Columbia University, where his concentration was in Economic and Political Development, and his specialization was in Media. He has worked in different Chilean publications covering political, economic and social issues. It is part of the network of journalists of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).
