Within the framework of Astronomy Day 2017, an innovative experience will be held that fuses music and astronomy, through a tour of the most important works of Beethoven, Grieg and Yermakova, interspersed with short talks by prominent Chilean astrophysicists. The exhibitors will complement the staging with reflections such as life in the universe or exoplanets, supported by spectacular images from the ALMA and ESO Chile observatories.
The “Cielos de Chile” concert, a montage that the Pudahuel Youth Orchestra has been performing since 2016, is financed by the Ministry of Economy, supported by GAM, along with the various institutions that participate in the organization of Astronomy Day such as CONICYT, through its Explora and Astronomy programs, the Planetarium Foundation, and the Chilean Astronomy Society, SOCHIAS.
“Cielos de Chile”, premiered in September 2016, is a show where new performers will share the stage with the American pianist Kimball Gallagher and the astrophysicist Sebastián Pérez, who also performs a charango concerto that is inspired by the fundamental laws of the universe.
The Pudahuel Youth Orchestra is made up of 45 young people between 17 and 22 years old and is directed by Jorge Luis Cornejo. This initiative, which was born under the aegis of the Foundation of Youth and Children's Orchestras of Chile (FOJI), is a social and multidisciplinary project whose central objective is to bring music to children and young people from vulnerable contexts.
